I am back. And I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me (haaa kidding). But after my New York trip I had to chill for a bit and figure shit out. And what’s a better way for a “comeback” then bringing some news straight out of Parsons: Ximon Lee x H&M!
24-year-old Parsons graduate Ximon Lee picked up the H&M Design Award earlier this year. And he finally had the opportunity to develop his collection and sell it at select H&M stores this fall (available since 22nd october). I remember when I frist saw his collection all over Tumblr and I was trying so hard to find information about Ximon Lee and I couldn’t find any. And one year later finding his fashion pieces all over the internet.
However, Ximon created stuff for both mens- and womenswear, where he is concentrating on structure, fabric and volume for oversized silhouettes that capture the best qualities of denim. Take a look: Pictures via H&M
Returning to my home away from home soon. And with home I mean New York City. The city I used to live in and will never be forget. That’s why I had to bring some New York flavor to this blog.
ECKHAUS LATTA is a New York based fashion label designed and executed by Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta. The two met while attending the Rhode Island School of Design, where they studied Sculpture and Textile Design, respectively. After graduating (BFA 2010), they designed and worked with many labels, artists and institutions including Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Matthew Barney, Opening Ceremony, The Ratti Textile Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and threeASFOUR. Together in 2011, Mike and Zoe founded ECKHAUS LATTA.
The Designers release collections semi-annually during NYFW. In addition to their shows and presentations, Eckhaus Latta produces videos with the director Alexa Karolinski to further contextualize their collections. The brand has also participated in various artists collaborations including: designing uniforms for Dora Budor’s piece at the 55th Venice Biennale, an edition of Deodorant with the trend-forecasting agency K-HOLE supported by Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler Gallery in Berlin, a collection for Bjarne Melgaard’s show at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise and outfits for Xavier Cha’s Fruit Machine at the New Museum. This past summer their work was included in the Museum of Art and Design’s NYC Makers Biennial and they will be premiering their SS15 collection video at MOCA in January.
Real Talk: if you haven’t heard about designer Kim Shui yet, you definitely did something wrong in your life. And in your case I would do some major thinking about priorities and what’s important in life (just kidding tho).
But in case you really haven’t heard about Kim Shui, here is a short bio: Kim Shui was born in the US, and raised in Rome, Italy. She graduated from Duke University with a double major in Economics and French before pursuing Fashion Design at Parsons and Central St. Martins graduating with Distinction. Her concept collections are one of a kind, but with her Ready-To-Wear MOMENTUM collection she is ready to take the fashion world.
Culminating in a series of richly textural designs, Kim Shui embarks on an investigation into transitional pace, exploring the daily rise and fall in physical momentum for SS15. Examining movement in relation to the feminine form through the mimicry of motion that is evident in the juxtaposition of silhouette throughout the collection. Pairing rigid panels of shimmering silver lamé with the voluminous peaks and folds of dense black ruffles and orbital shoulder strap detailing to create a sports-luxe aesthetic that appears constantly in motion, even when stagnant.
To every female model (we talked about Imaan Hamman a couple of days ago) we are supporting. there is always a male counterpart. This week it’s American male model Louis Mayhew!
And honestly there is not much I can tell you about this kid. Louis Mayhew is from Cambridge, Massachusetts and got discovered while he was getting pizza (and I don’t know what’s better: getting pizza or getting discovered!). His ethnicity is mixed (Native American, African American, Scottish, French) and of course his look is very unique otherwise he wouldn’t be modeling, no?! But besides all that info there is a lot of potential and for whatever reason I can def see him working with Givenchy (so Ricardo if you are reading this it’s not too late…).
New York-based artist, filmmaker and designer Vashtie Kola teams up with PUMA for a debut Spring/Summer 2015 collaboration that includes a selection of ready-to-wear unisex pieces. And it was just a matter of time till this happened, because Vashtie is all over New York’s fashion scene. And I have seen her so many times during my NY visit last September. The collection is inspired by New York City and the age of 80s Bboy culture and 90s alternstyle.
The lookbook for the Vashtie x Puma collection was photographed around downtown Manhattan metro station and brings up some of my own NYC memories. The range includes tanks and jerseys, bombers embellished with patches and gold zippers, and geometric-patterned leggings, all rinsed over with a color palette of gold, burgundy and black.
Yeezy Season 1.
Do I have to say more? Kanye West and Adidas unveiled their first collaboration in New York City and showcased the Yeezy Collection. Named Yeezy Season 1 the collection features a series of apparel and the new footwear including the adidas Yeezy 750 Boost and the adidas Yeezy 350 Boost. And in my opinion here is why the hype is so real (I can feel it all the way to Europe):
1. The collection is timeless and at the same time it’s zeitgeisty.
2. The presentation. Simple, clean, urban and putting the collection in the spotlight. And it’s so smart to portray nakedness so that the focus is on the clothing. The idea is genius!
3. The models. The mixture of not experienced and experienced models like Ian Connor, Kylie Jenner, Amina Blue, Dudley O’Shaughnessy or Jackson Hale and the variety of looks is making the collection very approachable. The models are reflecting society and showing different shapes, heights, colors and faces.
4. Not so relevant, but still relevant for the press: the front row. When Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kim, Anna Wintour and Puffy (the 90s are back) are sitting in the front row then you already know what’s up.

I am just praying that the fashion pieces are not too expensive. But this collection needs to be supported. #TeamAdidas
